Interview with Dierk Koenig

At JavaOne, I sat down with Dierk Koenig to talk about the forthcoming next edition of Groovy in Action, the synergy between Canoo Webtest and Groovy, and much more. The iPhone/QuickTime-ready file (150mb) is here.

UPDATE: You can now view the entire interview online. Enjoy!

Announcement: Groovy/Grails Experience, 2009

At JavaOne last night, the much-anticipated next Groovy/Grails Experience was announced. Newly dubbed SpringOne2GX, it will be in New Orleans - October 19 - 22, 2009.

ThirstyHead will be there, of course, talking about Groovy, Grails, and easyb. See you there!

ThirstyHead goes to JavaOne

After speaking in Denver this weekend at the NFJS to my hometown peeps, I'm off to JavaOne. (It's still weird seeing myself on the homepage. I assumed that they cycled randomly through all of the speakers, but I've been there for weeks.)

I'll be speaking about Resource-Oriented Architectures (ROA) and REST from a distinctly Groovy and Grails perspective. We'll be using Groovy for XmlSlurping some 3rd party RESTful APIs (Yahoo, Twitter, et al), and Grails for rolling our own. Should be a good time all around. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Groovy Code Camp in Denver

We are pleased to announce the Groovy Code Camp, Denver Edition. The camp will be two nights of hands-on Groovy goodness, Tuesday July 28 - Wednesday July 29th, 6pm - 10pm each night.

By offering the courses at night, we hope to appeal to the same User Group members that don't want to take vacation time from work or personal time away from their families on the weekend. BJUG members will be pleased to know that we are meeting on CU campus in the Wolf Law Building. The facilities are second to none, parking is free, and every other seat has electrical outlets. Bring your own laptop, and we'll put it to work.

This is your chance to build real muscle memory with two nights of intense, hands-on Groovy exercises at a very affordable price. Hope to see you there!

Practically Groovy: Building, parsing, and slurping XML

The latest Practically Groovy article just hit the streets: Practically Groovy: Building, parsing, and slurping XML. Get the bits while they're hot!

Groovy Code Camp in Phoenix

I'm thrilled to be working with the smart guys from Integrallis on the upcoming Groovy Code Camps. The first one is in Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, June 20, 2009.

I'll be partnering with Joseph Faisal Nusairat (co-author of the outstanding Beginning Groovy and Grails), Brian Sam-Bodden (founder of Integrallis and author of Beginning POJOs), and Raju Gandhi (a senior Grails consultant with Integrallis).

The whole point of the code camp is to bring your laptop and get real, hands-on experience with Groovy. It's one thing to sit back and watch someone else do the typing. It's a whole different thing when it's you. By actively working with Groovy in one intense day, you will be building "muscle memory" in Groovy in a way that's pretty unique. (Can you tell that I'm excited about this?)

I look forward to seeing you in Phoenix in June, Denver in July, and who knows -- maybe your city as well. Drop us a note if you want us to come to your hometown.

Mastering Grails: Authentication and authorization

Scott has another edition of Mastering Grails out: Mastering Grails: Authentication and authorization. Enjoy!

Adv Grails Night Class

Scott is in MD right now teaching a two-day accelerated Adv. Grails night class. Intrigued? So was I, but the 20+ students are really digging in. Ping us if this sounds like something you'd like to try in your hometown.

Scott is also at the Reston NFJS show, happening this weekend. I hope to see you XML Groovy Ninjas and Lizard-Brained Web Developers there.

Andy Glover writes about Amazon S3

In Storage made easy with S3, Andy gets you up and running with Amazon cloud computing in a hurry. And with all of those defs in the code examples, I'll leave it up to you to guess what language he uses...

Andy will also be talking about S3 at upcoming NFJS shows. Coming soon to a town near you!

Andy chats with Grails lead Graeme Rocher

Andy's interviews over at JavaWorld are always entertaining and informative. This time around, he talks with Grails lead Graeme Rocher about the recent 1.1 release.
